Talk: From Monolith to Micro-Services, Scaling a Digital Platform for the Cloud
Talk Time: 9:35 - 10:20am
Discover how ASOS, the #1 online fashion destination for 20-somethings, used innovative and advanced continuous integration approaches and centralised tooling, such as TeamCity and Octopus to enable one of its largest digital, customer facing platforms to move from an on prem, monolithic 3rd party application to distributed high scale, multi-region applications and services on Azure.
During the talk we discuss the challenges, the approach selected as well as the cultural and technical changes that we needed to make in order for this to be a continuing success.
I am the Platform Lead for ALM at ASOS, I have worked there for 10 years having previously spent 13 years at Lloyds Bank. I have been fortunate enough be involved with the significant growth of ASOS and helped grow the Tech function from 2 teams to over 70, supported the change from on prem to Cloud and rolled out a DevOps model that not only supports our change goals but allows us to improve. I am passionate about DevOps and supporting teams to really embrace it.
Scott has worked in the IT industry for nearly 19 years, and joined ASOS over five years ago as a Principal Software Engineer, where he has worked predominantly within the Customer Experience domain, leading, guiding and helping teams navigate the myriad challenges of engineering for high scale, fast pace and a global customer base. He is passionate about software delivery, DevOps, Continuous Delivery and coaching and mentoring engineers. In recent years at ASOS he has worked closely with the Content Platform, one of the larger platforms at ASOS tasked with delivering high profile customer-facing solutions on (and around) Sitecore CMS, an interesting challenge which he will discuss in this talk.
