WinOps Speaker Jeffrey Snover

Jeffrey Snover | Microsoft

Keynote Talk: Empowering DevOps with Azure Stack

Jeffrey Snover is a Technical Fellow at Microsoft and the Chief Architect for the Azure Infrastructure and Management team. Snover is the inventor of Windows PowerShell, an object-based distributed automation engine, scripting language, and command line shell. Snover joined Microsoft in 1999 as divisional architect for the Management and Services Division, providing technical direction across Microsoft's management technologies and products. Snover has over 35 years of industry experience with a focus on management technologies and solutions. He was an architect in the office of the CTO at Tivoli and a development manager at NetView. He has worked also as a consulting engineer and development manager at DEC, where he led various network and systems management projects. Snover is a frequent speaker at industry and research conferences on a variety of cloud, management and language topics.

WinOps Speaker Sam Guckenheimer

Sam Guckenheimer | Microsoft

Keynote Talk: Moving 70,000 Microsofties to DevOps on the Public Cloud

Sam Guckenheimer is the Product Owner for the Microsoft Visual Team Services and Team Foundation Server. In this capacity, he acts as the chief customer advocate, responsible for strategy of the next releases of these products, focusing on DevOps, Agile and Application LifeCycle Management.

Sam edits the website, www.visualstudio.com/devops. He is a regular speaker and has keynoted at many conferences including DevOps Enterprise Summit and Agile. He is the author of four books, most recently Journey to Cloud Cadence, Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2012: Adopting Agile Software Practices: From Backlog to Continuous Feedback. Prior to joining Microsoft in 2003, Sam was Director of Product Line Strategy at Rational Software Corporation, now the Rational Division of . Sam lives in the Seattle area with his wife and three children in a sustainable house they built that has been described in articles in Metropolitan Home and Houzz.

I'm a Pluralsight Author, Microsoft MVP and Developer Advocate at Docker, Inc. I've been architecting and delivering successful solutions with Microsoft technologies since 2000, most recently Big Data and API implementations in Azure, and distributed applications with Docker.

Currently I'm interested the expansion of the Microsoft stack outside of the normal boundaries; exploring the great opportunities opening up with .NET Core running on Linux, Windows Containers, and Docker running on Azure.

I'm a regular speaker at events and user groups - you'll often see me at WinOps, Docker London and London DevOps. In 2017 I have speaking sessions at some great conferences - NDC London, OSCAMP, DockerCon, Developer Days and SDD, DevSum in Sweden, NDC Oslo and CDNext.

Steve Thair | DevOpsGroup

Talk: The Future of (Windows) Operations

Steve has twenty five years of IT experience working for top government and corporate organisations in Australia and the UK, including BNP Paribas, Vodafone and Credit Suisse.

Prior to co-founding DevOpsGroup, Steve was the Web Operations Manager for Totaljobs and was responsible for running their online job board platform.

Steve’s passion is creating operationally excellent platforms for web applications that are secure, scalable and manageable. He is an expert across a wide range of technologies, with Microsoft web server infrastructure being a specialism.

In recognition of this expertise, Steve Thair has been made a “Regional Director” by Microsoft. Established in 1993, the program consists of 150 of the world’s top technology visionaries. Regional Directors are expert advocates who promote Microsoft products, services, and solutions by sharing their deep knowledge with groups such as customers, the press and industry analysts.

Steve blogs extensively and presents regularly at numerous meetups, webinars and conferences around the world to evangelise the benefits of DevOps.

I am a Technical Evangelist at Microsoft who helps organisations to implement DevOps practices on Microsoft Azure. When not working with customers I travel the country speaking about DevOps practices with the IT community.

Joining Microsoft provided the ideal opportunity for me to concentrate on what I enjoy – working with and talking about the latest technologies. Prior to working with Microsoft I spent 12 years running an IT services provider delivering enterprise infrastructure consultancy and was an instructor and course author for Learning Tree International.

Simon runs a Data Consultancy Sabin.io enabling companies to make the most of the data they have.

He has worked with data for all his career and worked with companies across all industry sectors including online retail, insurance, finance, motor sport.

He works with companies to help them:

  • Improve their data development practices including implementation of devops, agile methodologies and continuous integration.
  • Understand and define a cloud data platform strategy.
  • Optimise their data platform, including performance, scalability, security and certification.

Education of people is at the heart of what Simon and his company sabin.io stand for. it is epitomised by SQLBits, which Simon founded in 2007. Its the largest SQL Server conference outside of Europe and many view as the best in the world, always maintaining a free element and ensuring education for everyone.

He is also a SQL Microsoft Certified Master and has been Microsoft MVP since 2005

Neil Peterson is a datacenter and cloud enthusiast. With 15 years' experience in large datacenter deployment, management and maintenance operations, Neil now works as a Senior content developer with Microsoft delivering technical documentation with focus on Azure and Containers.

Talk: Azure Infrastructure as Code with Hashicorp Terraform

Alex has years of experience in Windows and Infrastructure Engineering teams, operating at scale in investment banking and at speed in agile hedge funds. "Deploying datacentres is interesting work the first couple of times but then maintaining all that kit is a drag. I deployed a grid compute cluster on AWS and it was clear public cloud was the way forward." Since then Alex has completed several migrations to public cloud at Hentsū. Somewhere, some of Alex's vbScripts are still in production [shudder].

I have worked in IT, Marketing, Software Support and Software Delivery before moving into my current System Build (DevOps) role within Callcredit. I live and breathe DevOps and am currently focussing on anything around containerisation in Windows. A day without Metal and motor racing is a dull one.

Kathleen Wilson is an Architect at Microsoft for the Cloud and Infrastructure Management Center of Excellence, focusing on developing solutions for management and adoption of Private, Hybrid, Public Clouds and DevOps. Kathleen’s strengths lie in understanding what is needed to adopt, support and operation solutions either on premise or in the cloud. Kathleen has over 21 years of experience in IT and has worked in IT Operations and Consulting. Prior to her Architect role, Kathleen was a consultant in Microsoft Consulting Services Canada who focused on assisting Customers with the adoption of Microsoft products, Service Manager, Service Management and Private Cloud. Kathleen co-authored a MS Press book, Optimizing Service Manager and was a contributing author to the System Center 2012 Service Manager Unleashed book. Kathleen is an Edutainer and has spoken at many internal and external Microsoft/industry events. Audiences have enjoyed her passionate and entertaining approach to how to make complex IT approaches actionable, customer and business focused.

Talk: Modern Software Management on Windows w/Chocolatey

Rob is a developer turned founder who has a passion for developing low maintenance solutions with great user experiences and common sense approaches. He has been involved with several highly successful open source projects related to automation in the Windows ecosystem. Rob has over 10 years experience in infrastructure automation and modern automation approaches (something most folks simply call “CI/CD” and “DevOps” nowadays).

In his day job he is solving software management automation for Windows with Chocolatey Software. Rob is very active in OSS and manages several OSS projects. Some of those projects include Chocolatey (software management/package management for Windows) and RoundhousE (database migration engine, part of the Chuck Norris Framework). He tends to speak his mind about the importance of behavior-driven design, and his polyglot is all entranced in C# and Ruby right now. Viva la DevOps (with a side of bacon)!

Alex Yates | DLM Consultants

Talk: Testing SQL Server with tSQLt and VSTS

Alex is a Microsoft Data Platform MVP with a passion for DevOps.

Alex has been helping data professionals apply DevOps principles to relational database development and deployment since 2010. He's most proud of helping Skyscanner develop the ability to deploy 95 times a day. Originally for Redgate, later for DLM Consultants, Alex has worked with clients on every continent except Antarctica - so he's keen to meet anyone who researches penguins.

A keen community member, he co-organises the London Continuous Delivery meetup and SQL Relay. He blogs at workingwithdevs.com, speaks wherever they'll let him and manages the DLM Digest quarterly email: a report on the latest database DevOps news/tutorials.

He's quite fond of nutella. And otters. (Not together.)

Kenneth has been the Lead Principal Program Manager for PowerShell for the past 14 years; and has recently shifted to deep dive into DevOps and CloudOps. Prior to PowerShell, at Microsoft, Kenneth has also worked on IP Telephony, BackOffice, Exchange Apps, and Provisioning. Before Microsoft, Kenneth led software development for MasPar, a manufacturer of Massively Parallel Computers and even earlier worked in AI and compiler teams in various Startups.

I am a Systems Engineer on Facebook's internal Core Automation team, currently specializing in configuration management of our Windows server infrastructure with Chef. When I started my Facebook journey I was also a member of the Client Platform Engineering team where we managed our corporate assets, which includes a few thousand Windows laptops, with Chef.

My current focus is developing internal automation tools customized for Facebook's environment, which is very Linux-centric but with a growing need for Windows, wherever that path may lead me.
